Mavericks Fall in Regional Championship

CANYON, Texas – The No. 7 Colorado Mesa baseball team advanced to the NCAA South Central Regional Championship game but fell to the Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelinas 12-5 at Wilder Park on the campus of West Texas A&M.

The Mavericks fell to 1-4 all-time against the Javelinas and 3-2 in regional championship matchups.

Kingsville hopped out to a 7-0 lead after three innings of play. The Mavericks put their first run on the board in the top of the sixth inning on a Hunter Douglas double to right field that scored John Ballard on the play.

Later in the inning, Caleb Farmer hit a sac fly to left that plated Douglas while Nick Borowski singled up the middle scoring Dominic DeMarco in the inning.

The Javelinas scored four more runs in the inning to extend their lead.

The Mavericks tallied single runs in both the seventh and eighth innings but couldn't get any closer.

Earlier in the day, the Mavericks played their third straight extra inning game and faced the Colorado School of MInes Orediggers for the ninth time this season. CMU prevailed victorious and moved into the Regional Championship after an 11-4 win over Mines.
