Boehme, Rock Lead Mavericks Into Region Semis

Box Score CANYON, Texas – Colorado Mesa led by as many as 20 points with 8:20 to play, but Midwestern State cut the lead to seven with just 45 seconds left in the game. But, the Mavericks held on for a 60-49 win and advanced to the NCAA South Central Region semifinal for the second straight season.
 
The Maverick defense stepped up once again limiting the Mustangs to just 29.4 percent (15-for-51) from the field and forced 22 turnovers. They outrebounded Midwestern State 34-31 and had four blocks in the game.
 
Unfortunately, Colorado Mesa committed 27 turnovers which led to 29 Mustang points.
 
Taylor Rock had her best night of her career. Rock finished with 13 points, four rebounds, three assists, and three blocks. She was a perfect 5-for-5 from the field and hit a big three-pointer to kill a Midwestern State run.
 
Aubry Boehme led all scorers with 19 points and pulled in three rebounds. Boehme fouled out with 2:42 remaining in the contest on an offensive foul.
 
Leanndra Gilbert led the Mavericks with six rebounds.
 
Colorado Mesa finished the game shooting 52.4 percent (22-of-42) from the field but just 72 percent (13-of-18) from the free throw line, just a shade below their season average.
 
Midwestern State was led by returning All-American Andrea Carter who finished with 15 points and nine rebounds.
 
At the half, Midwestern State and the Mavericks combined for 26 turnovers but CMU was able to gain a 28-22 halftime lead. Both teams' leading scorers were held scoreless with the Mustangs' Andrea Carter and Sharaya Selsor of Colorado Mesa each finishing with zero points.
 
Midwestern State scored the first nine points of the game but Colorado Mesa answered with a 10-2 run midway through the half. CMU also finished the half on a 9-2 run.
 
Colorado Mesa will take on the Tarleton State TexAnns at 5:00pm (CDT) tomorrow night at the First United Bank Center in Canyon, Texas.
