WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Junior
Jordan Lyden solidified himself as the greatest tennis player in Colorado Mesa history by winning the singles title at the 2013 USTA/ITA South Central Regional Championship Sunday (Sept. 29).
"This is definitely one of the biggest wins in school history," said head coach
Dan MacDonald. "Jordan took advantage of his opportunities. I am excited to see what he can do at the national tournament in Florida."
Lyden will advance to the USTA/ITA Small College National Tournament Oct. 9-12 in Fort Meyers, Fla.
Lyden defeated Kacper Boborykin of Midwestern State 7-3, 1-7, 7-4 in the quarterfinals. The St. George, Utah, native followed up with a 7-0, 7-2 victory over Justin Pena of UT-Permian Basin to advance to the finals. He defeated Kyle Davidson 7-5, 4-7, 7-2 to win the title.
Lyden is the first CMU tennis player to advance to the national tournament in singles.
