Colorado Christian knocked off No. 2 seed Metro State 53-48 in the semifinal round of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Shootout on Friday night at Brownson Arena on the campus of Colorado Mesa University. The Cougars, seeded No. 6 in the tourney upended No. 3 UC-Colorado Springs on Tuesday night.
CCU built a 31-19 halftime lead behind Mariah Metoyer's 12-first half points. Metoyer was 4 for 4 from the field, including 2 of 2 from the 3-point line. The Cougars quickly jumped out to a 16-6 lead and led by as many as 14 points with a 1:08 remaining in the first half.
Colorado Christian opened the second half extending the lead to 18 points (39-21) before the Roadrunners went on a 19-1 run to pull to within five points (45-40) with 8:24 left in the game. Metro closed the gap to two points with 1:58 remaining (48-46) but a layup by Kayla Fakelman and three made free throws down the stretch by BJ Moyes sealed the victory for the Cougars.
Metro's Jenessa Burke led all players with 17 points off the bench. Burke scored 14-second half points.
Colorado Christian had three players register double digits. Kate Louthan posted a double-double; 12 points and 10 rebounds. Metoyer led the Cougars with 14 points and Fakelman added 12 points.
CCU will play the winner of the Colorado Mesa versus Ft. Lewis winner in the RMAC Shootout Championship on Saturday at 7 p.m.
