Colorado Mesa University (27-1) defeated Fort Lewis College (18-10) 73-65 in semifinal action in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Shootout Championship on Friday night at Brownson Arena on the campus of CMU. CMU led from start to finish and jumped out to an early lead in the contest holding a 19-2 advantage at the 12:31 mark of the first half. Ft. Lewis settled in and went on a 13-2 run in a span of three minutes to cut the Maverick lead to six points (21-15). CMU would answer back with a 9-0 spurt for a 30-15 lead. Back again the Skyhawks came with a 13-2 run to close to within four points (32-28) with 2:12 left in the half. Fort Lewis would stay close throughout the first 10-minutes of the second half pulling to within three points ((52-49) with just over 10-minutes remaining in regulation. It would be the closest the Skyhawks would come as the Mavericks would out score FLC 16-3 for a 68-52 lead. FLC would cut the deficit to single digits on a layup and made free throw by Katrina Garcia to end the game.
