Falcons Come From Behind and Beat Abilene Christian

The final game of the marathon day one of the NCAA South Central Regional tournament at Colorado Mesa saw Abilene Christian (21-7) play host to the University of Texas-Permian Basin (21-7). UTPB beat ACU in an absolute nail biter 70-68.

The game stayed close through the first half even after ACU pulled a 12 point lead at one time in the first half. The first half saw Mackenzie Lankford put up 11 points and Renata Marquez scoring eight points for ACU.

The only Texas-Permian Basin player to put up double digits in the first half was Briannah Matthews.

The second half started UTPB going on a run and cutting into ACU's lead. At one time in the second half, UTPB had cut the lead to one. ACU saw stretches of the game where they would pull away from Permian Basin, only to see UTPB pull back with in a few days. UTPB didn't gain their first lead of the half till after more than 10 minutes in. After tasting the lead, UTPB had no interest in relinquishing it back to ACU.

The game came down to the final moments as UTPB led 66-62 going into the final minute. Late scoring brought the game down to the final second literally.

Sadie Dickinson and Kelsey Smith tied for the most points for ACU with 16 apiece. Smith also had a total of 13 rebounds.

Texas-Permian Basin received major contributions from lead scorer Briannah Matthews who put up 18 points with six rebounds, while Teisha King had 15 points with eight rebounds.

Texas-Permian Basin will face #1 seed and host team Colorado Mesa Saturday night 7:30 in the semi final round.
