Mustangs Hold Off TexAnns

Tarleton vs. Midwestern State Friday

Game two of the opening day of the South Central Regional tournament inside Colorado Mesa's Brownson Arena saw two Lone Star conference rivals take the court. The Tarleton TexAnns (19-10) hosted the Midwestern State Mustangs (25-5) Friday afternoon.

The Tarleton TexAnns came out strong to start after seeing Junior Brianna Bledsoe kicked the game off with two back to back three pointers. The Midwestern Mustangs then went on a run of their own, which at times included a 10 point lead over Tarleton.

Andrea Carter led the way for Midwestern in the first half, scoring 12 points while also getting six rebounds.

On the other side of the court, Briana Bledsoe opened up and closed the first half with a pair of big three point baskets. Bledsoe drained a three as time expired going into halftime earning Bledsoe a career high scoring game in only the first half.

MSU got the second half rolling again by scoring off a layup by Sophomore Andrea Carter.

Tarleton had apparently had enough of trailing as they began to claw their way back to the top. At the near halfway point of the second half, the TexAnns had come back to tie score at 55.  The last ten minutes of the game saw frantic scoring on both sides as the numbers on the board climbed into the eighties, and had no sign of stopping.

When the scoring did stop, it stopped in the nineties. Midwestern State topped their in-state rival 91-78 to move on to the semi finals Saturday night.

Brianna Bledsoe ended the game with a career high 19 points with four offensive rebounds. Peyton Adamson finished the game with 11 points and two defensive rebounds for Tarleton.

Andrea Carter wrapped up the game with 16 points and four offensive rebounds in 40 minutes for the Mustangs.

Midwestern will take on the Roadrunners of Metro State tomorrow night at 5 p.m.
